Matariki

Matariki the Maori new year is full of tradition Matariki is officially celebrated on 15 June 2018. Matariki is the Maori name for a group of seven stars known as the Pleiades star cluster.
Twinkling in the winter sky just before dawn Traditionally, it was a time for remembering the dead, and celebrating new life.  In the 21st century, observing Matariki has become popular again. Heaven-bound kites, hot-air balloons and fireworks help mark the occasion.

Writing

Keys:

WHO, WHAT , WHEN , WHERE, WHY

On the 25th of December, Christmas Day  we always travel to Kaikoura to see our family.
When we have travelled, most of our family meets up at our great Nana's house and
we spend Christmas together. Here is some more about it.

It was 6:00am in the morning, it was time to get up and and go out to the living room so I can wait
for the rest of my family. It’s like this every year. Once everyone has woken up or most of them,
we open our presents. It’s great fun and it is an exciting time as well. Once we have opened our
presents we have to get ready for a long trip to Kaikoura for the day. So, we get ready and grab a few
things to do on the way and we head off.

It was 7:15 and it was time to get on the road. It’s a long and boring ride,
but there are some great sites and attractions on the way. It is amazing too see how much it has
changed every year. The trip is long and slow, but in the end it is worth it because,
when we make it over the hill and we see the sea, it is a nice site and we know we are close.
Sometimes when we are driving along the coast line, we can see dolphins jumping out of the water
and doing dolphin things. Before we go and see our family, we go to the graveyard to see some of our
family's headstones.

Meeting up with the family is great. Seeing them every year and talking too them is fun.
We also sometimes play games and run around to stretch from the trip.
We also have family photos every year with our great Nana. We go family by family and it is a
nice photo for our nana to put on her fridge. Afterwards we go to where my dad is buried and to
the beach right next to it where he always went surfing. We sometimes grab some white rocks.
Hearing the crashing waves, horizon and the coastline is phenomenal.

Now it was time to head home and use some of the things we got and also time to relax.
Sometimes on the trip back home, we stop in cheviot or Amberly to get a refreshment for the
rest of the way. We are all excited when we get to the motorway going into Christchurch because,
that means we can finally get out of the car and relax. We get back to my Nana's house and
we use our new things and we have a nice relaxing rest of the day.

Spending time with family on Christmas is an amazing time and it is fun as well. For us it is kinda
rushed, but it is worth it. I enjoy Christmas day!

Reflection:
I think that I created an interesting piece of writing because I added some WoW words.
For next time I could spend more time on Planning before i start writing.
In my writing, I would like to improve on adding Capitals for place names and adding
commas more often.
