Home Economics (kiwi baker)

This term in Home economics we have been doing the Kiwi baker.  Here are some questions we were given to answer.  

What did you bake?
We made Oreo cookies

What did you like about what you baked?
It tasted very good and it gave some learning experiences. The thing that i liked the most was the sweetness of the food we made and the crunch as well. 

Did you make any changes to the recipe you used?
Yes, We had to add a little more flour do make it in to a dough. 

What were the key skills that you learnt?
Communication because that was important so then we didn't add to much of an ingredient. 

Did you enjoy the kiwi bakers unit? Give some reasons.
Yes i enjoyed it because we got to try some different things and different combinations with the food we baked and we got to work with people that aren't in our form class. 

Science

In Science our new topic is food and digestion. The other day we did an experiment trying to see if there is protein in curtain food.  We had eggs, milk, and butter.

Aim: TO test if a sample of food contains protein

Equipment: Test tube, Sodium Hydroxide (NaOH), Copper sulfate (CuSO), Food sample

Method: WHat we did is we got all of the equipment. Our food samples were Eggs, Milk, Butter. You put a little bit of the sample into the bottom of the test tube ( about 1-2cm in the bottom of it)  and then we put about 3-5 drops of each of the chemicals.  We then shook the test tube gently side to side to let it mix together. If it is positive with protein the liquid will go purple and it will remain blue if there is no protein present in the sample.

NZ Government

L.O Understand how the New Zealand government is structured and how people can have a say.

In New Zealand there are different types of government. Legislative, Executive, Judaical. Legislative government - Parliament makes the laws.

Executive - Government: Cabinet - Develops and administers laws.

Has the power to make decisions

Judaical - Courts, judges - has the power to interpret laws (what they mean and how they work).

An Interesting fact:

• In 1893 women were granted the vote after a petition with 32,000 signatures was presented to parliament.

This term we have been learning about government. For this we got to choose a different type of government and I chose to do communism in north Korea. This is what I have done and some of the information I have found out. 
  

Eye Dissection

This week in science we have been learning about the different parts of the eye. For an experiment we got to dissect a cows eye.

Aim: TO find out all of the different parts of the eye.

Method: What we did is we got All of the equipment we needed and we had to start by cutting off all of the fat around the outside of the eye.  What we did after that is we cut a small hole in the cornea (small layer over the pupil to protect it) And squeezed out all of this clear liquid.  We found The Retina, and we detached the lens and had a look at that.

The lens focuses the light.
The pupil lets the light in
The iris limits the amount of light that gets let in.


I learnt that when you dissect a cows eye, it looks disgusting and i don't like it at all. but i also learnt different parts of the eye.

Science (sugar crystals)

For science today, we have been given some questions about an experiment we are doing next week.

1. What is a crystal?

 A crystal or crystalline solid is a solid material whose constituents are arranged in a highly ordered microscopic structure, forming a crystal lattice that extends in all directions.

How can you make sugar crystals?

Rock Candy Materials

• 3 cups sugar 
• 1 cup boiling water
• food coloring (optional)
• flavoring 
• clean glass or plastic jar
• wooden skewer or cotton string

Grow Sugar Crystals

The procedure is really easy.

1. Dissolve the sugar in the boiling water. You can heat the sugar solution on the stove or in the microwave if you have trouble getting the sugar to dissolve.
2. Add a few drops of food coloring and flavor, if desired.
3. Allow the solution to cool a bit before pouring it into your jar. You don’t want to get burned!
4. Pour the sugar solution into a jar. Place a wooden skewer into the jar or else hang a string into the middle of the jar, tied to a pencil or butter knife.
5. Place the container somewhere it won’t be disturbed. You may wish to cover the jar with a paper towel or coffee filter to allow evaporation while keeping the crystal solution clean.
6. It may take a few days to get good crystal growth. If you see crystals forming on the top of the jar, you can remove them and eat them. If you leave them, these crystals will compete with your stick or string for sugar and will reduce the size of your crystals.
7. Remove the crystals and enjoy them! If you want to store the crystals before eating them, keep them in an airtight container so humidity in the air won’t make the rock candy sticky. 

Writing

My friends and I, (Cole, Rojan and Kalim) wandering through the graveyard it felt like something was watching us. I didn't really take notice of it though. We find a spot in the middle of this cemetery, we all sat down, and we prepared ourselves for what we were going to play.

It was about 2:30am  and darkness surrounded the cemetery. We all knew that there was a little forestry behind the cemetery but it was out of vision because none of the lights around the cemetery worked.  We got the game out of my bag and just seeing the name of the board sent chills down my spine because i had seen many videos about this game and they all seemed too work and some of them went very bad. We started the ritual as we were meant to. We circled the playing check around the board, Asked if anyone or anything was there, and waited.    could feel a presence behind me but I didn’t say anything.  

We waited for about a minute and we didn’t get any response so we did it again.  As we circled the playing check around the board for the second time, I could feel a presence again. This time Kalim asked the question, and as he finished the question this face appeared in front of my eyes for a split second and then disappeared again.  I jolted back in fear of not knowing what had just happened. I rushed back to the board after catching my breath because one of the main rules is to not take your fingers off of the playing check. So as we were all sitting there while i was explaining what was happening and there was obviously a presence of something here with us, The check moved sharply and quickly too yes. The game had started…

We got a few questions in, i think 4 too be semi accurate, and then we asked its name. It went backwards and forwards between the letters Z & O. That was something we were told too watch out for on the online page. There was a warning saying that ZOZO was a demon and wasn’t someone to mess with. The playing check stopped after 10 seconds of going back and forward.  We check the time and it is 3:08am. We had entered the so called devil's hour. “What if it had something to do with ZOZO” Rojan calmly explained to the group. We didn’t know but we couldn’t leave.  e were one question away from being able to go. We moved the playing check over the word goodbye and then we all let go and started talking. We talked for about 5 minutes about what just happened.

We go too put the board back into the box and then someone notices that the playing check has been moved back to no. We were all thinking that one of us were pranking the group so we continued to put the board back into the box. The four of us still semi paranoid about the whole situation left slowly and calmly out of the graveyard and back to the car. As we were leaving the graveyard on the wall just around the corner there had been words spray painted onto the wall, Saying “You will not escape”. We Were all terrified because that wasn’t there when we got there but who would be up at 3:00am in the morning spray painting, And we would have heard it. We Threw the board into the trash, run to the car and drove home. We were all tired and as soon as we got home we all went to bed.

As we woke up in the morning, we waited for everyone to get up because today was the day that we were going to go to the abandoned water park to have a look around at everything. So we all done out normal morning routine and then we locked up the house and then we opened up the garage.  t was right, We didn’t escape…

The board was back, Right there sitting on the hood of my car. I didn’t know what to do. I was scared. Well too be honest, i think we all were a little scared. We grabbed the board and threw it in the back. We were gonna really get rid of it.  We drove 2000 miles to the other side of america Just too dispose of this board. We NEVER wanted to see it EVER again. To Finally dispose of the board we gave to one of those crushing youtube channels so then it is ground up into bits.  wo days later… We decided to play a different game. The Midnight man game. THis is another summoning ritual game
