This semester in metal.

So this semester of metal i found it difficult at times getting measurements and all but then it was moderate difficulty in other parts. But over all it was an excellent experience, learning new helpful skills.

In my opinion i think the most difficult part was filing the sides to make them smooth due to me, personally kept slipping off the work with the file and cutting myself on the sharp edges but It didn't hurt for long. The most long lasting part was either cleaning the sides of the engineers blue and the anti rust layer or filing the sides down to shape because they were very long lasting.  My most favorite part of this semester was being able to spray paint my work. It was a very fun task and surprisingly i'm not to bad at it either.

So overall I had a great time in metal

Coat Hook Project.

So this semester we have been working on a coat hook project. For this project we needed multiple tools including, ( steel, aluminum is optional for back plate, file, scribe, hacksaw, ruler, engineers square, engineers blue, center punch, ball-peen hammer, rivets, emery cloth, oxy acetylene )

so what we did first is we got our metal, then we had to cut it, and file it down to size. After that we had to file it into shape .

Then after that we spent a lot of time cleaning out metal to make it shiny.

we marked it out for bending it.

Then we bent it to the right shape and had to clean it again.

We then counter sunk the holes and riveted it together

Then lastly we spray painted it the colour of our choice

Star maps

So for the last two periods of science we have been making star maps of some constellations that we found on star atlas.

Equipment:
1)  string
2) sewing pins
3) PVA glue
4) Cardboard
5) Black paper
6) Chalk

I choose the constellations of phoenix, sculptor, Tucana, Grus and the star Fomalhaut.

Astronomy : is the real science about space
Astrology : Is the Fake science & Theory's about space that aren't all true

Star maps were used for travel by following the north star to no north and the southern cross to go south.

This is the final result

English

Preforming and enhancing drugs should be allowed in sports.

I disagree with this statement because of many reasons, including that drugs are bad for your health. they can cause many major problems including heart disease, heart attack's, muscle failures. Another reason i think it shouldn't be allowed is that it will make it unfair on everyone else because everyone else there would have worked and earned their place there following after many defeats and let downs and then there is that person who all they had to do was take steroids and then he was the best.

Should school uniform be mandatory

I disagree with this because schools always tell you to not fit in but wearing school uniform puts that aside because you look the same as everyone else. Another reason is that school uniform gets really hot and uncomfortable throughout the day and its just a really unpleasant feeling. my last reason is that some family's might not have the funds to be able to buy school uniform especially school jackets because they get really expensive.

Science

On Tuesday we went over to kyle park to collect plants and insects to look at under the microscopes. we were looking at those plants and insects so we could see what cells they had. For this experiment we used 2 different types of microscopes. A dissection microscope and monocular microscope. Dissection microscopes are used for insects so you don't have to crush them and the monocular microscope you flatten it and use a light to see the cells.  these are some photos of our findings.  We put the  insects in ethanol to peacefully MURDER them in the least harmful way possible. and we also learnt how to prepare a slide for the monocular microscope to prepare a slide you need to...

  • Place the specimen in the middle of the clean slide. Ensure that the specimen is laying flat and not folded over itself.
  • Add 2-3 drops of the stain solution. Plant cells are commonly stained with iodine, whereas animal cells are commonly stained with methylene blue. both of these solutions stain the nucleus of each cell. (and your fingers and clothes so be careful)
  • Holding a cover slip by each of its edges in your left hand, manoeuvre it so that the bottom edge of the cover slip makes contact with both the slide and the edges of the stain solution. With your right hand support the top edge of the cover slip with a pair of tweezers.

P.E Gymnastics

In Gymnastics this term i would like to learn how to do a cartwheel On the floor mat. I would also like to learn how to do a backwards dismount of the parallel bars, and walk on the bar.

Before gymnastics i was kinda nervous because its like a big step up in flexibility.
I didn't like it at the start due to us having to take our socks off and because the whole collaborate classes. My view on gymnastics changed as i found out i was better at it than i thought i was and it seemed to be quite enjoyable. I had fun during this topic.

Image result for bottle rocket
BoTtLe RoCkEtS
for the past week and a bit our science class has been working on bottle rockets which we launched today. we used an l&p bottle which we painted golden yellow and pink. on our fins we had a  blue one as well as a red one and a yellow one before most of it also got painted yellow gold. then we had to make a cone using newspaper it took us a while to perfect the tip but we got it in the end.

to fly it we used a air pressure thing connected to a wooden something connected to another thing that connected to our rockets. we had to push down on the air pressure a couple of times to get it to go then the water splatted out to let it fly up.

our group worked well together to get everything done and i really liked to make this bottle rocket and collaborate with my friends.

After that we cut the cone and the fins off using a craft knife and then we cut the bottle in half. After that what we did is we filled the bottom half of the bottle with water and then the top half  we flipped it upside down we put felt through the neck of the bottle and fed it through up to the top to absorb water. Then we filled the top of the bottle with stones and pebbles and dirt up to about 3/4 full then we put the seeds in and then filled it the rest of the way with dirt.

Our planters have been going for a week and they have grown a bit and you can now see the green plants on top.

UPDATE:
there isn't any growth in the plant apart from the leaves getting larger and taller.

Science

A couple of weeks ago in science we had to create an organism that hasn't been founded before. We had to name it describe its habitat, give its a-Biotic factors and how it eats.

My Creature was called Toby 2.0
Toby gains nutrient by absorbing it through the blood
It lives in the blood
Its Abiotic Factors is that it's habitat (The blood) it lives in has to be between the temperatures of 34 and 42 Degrees Celsius But it is most active when it is the blood it between 37 and 38.
The liquid part of the blood is called plasma. It is made up of water, salt & proteins. The solid part of the blood (the part that thickens it) Are the red, What blood cells and there are things called platelets.

Giraffe problem

To your left there is some Rhino’s , And just up ahead too your right there will be the zebras.    As time went on we were getting closer to seeing the giraffes. My favourite animal of all. It finally came around the instructor said that to our left there is a group of giraffes and too out right there is a giraffe up a tree. We were all going along thinking it was a joke but then the instructor second guessed himself and informed us that it is a real giraffe and he called the park rangers to come and see how they could get the poor creature down.   It took awhile for the park rangers to get here because we were so far into the tour but we got to go up close with the other giraffes and we got to interact with some of the other animals as well. It was a very good encounter but I still felt bad for the poor giraffe that was stuck up the tree. He doesn’t have any food because he ate it all. The giraffe was sitting in the tree in a really awkward position he had it two hind legs crossed over each other wrapped around a branch so he didn’t fall but he also had his frnd legs wrapped around the tree.  We were escorted away because it wasn’t a safe place due to the roaming animals and we never know when a predator is going to show up.

MY MINECRAFT MISTAKE

HELP! I'm stuck up here.  I forgot to build the ladders to down. And if I just there is a high chance I will die of fall damage.  Someone help meeeeeee!  I messaged my friend on social media to log on and help me. I was waiting for about five to ten minutes before he could log on. He wasn't the brightest of people. As he joined my world he flew over to my house and placed a 2x2 water source under my house thinking that I could jump into it. But because it was centered under my house I couldn't have made it if I tried. It was useless so I kicked him from my world and asked for help from my other friend. He logged on instantly and he joined my world. He played this game professionally and was really good. When his game loaded he flew over to me. he placed a sign to tell me to turn on my mic. I turned it on and he said " your in creative you noob XD." I laughed awkwardly and then flew down to the ground and built ladders up to my house and then logged off.

Metal

For Metal we have been looking at different safety signs and what they mean. We have been looking at a main three safety signs that you would potentially see at a work place.

Hazard: A hazard is something that could injure or potentially kill you. A hazard can be like dust that could get into your eyes, A gas leak or even an electrical fault within an area.

Here are the three main signs we have been looking at:

Hazard
Image result for hazard signs
This sign means that there is a potential chance of slipping over

You could scan the area for any wet or slippery surfaces. You can put a wet floor sign down in front of the slippery surface and you can also block off the area too public or worker use.

Prohibited:

This sign is telling you too not use your phone.
This could be because you could be using your phone and there is a chance or a spark occurring and that
spark is a perfect ignition source for any fumes in the area.

You could prevent this from happening by not using your phone.

Mandatory:
Image result for Mandatory signThis sign is telling you to wear a harness when working because if you don't there is a potential chance of falling and hurting yourself.  You could prevent this from happening by wearing a harness.

This is my sign that i made

This sign is telling you to put you bags under the desk because it can be a tripping hazard.

Digestive system

This term we have been learning about the digestive system
What is the journey that the food has to go through in the digestive system.

Mouth - The mouth releases saliva to help break down food in your mouth
Oesophagus - the oesophagus takes the food down to the stomach
Stomach - the stomach has a lining of mucus so then it doesn't digest itself.

Hermes (English)

Hermes was the fastest god but he was considered the messenger for the Olympic gods.

Choose a Greek god & Name- Hermes

What are they a god/titan of? Hermes was one of the 12 Olympian Gods and was god of trade, thieves, travelers, sports, athletes, and border crossings, guide to the Underworld. He was the second youngest Olympian god

How were they created/born?  Who were their parents? Hermes was the son of Zeus and Maia, one of the seven Pleiades and daughter of the Titan Atlas.

Three interesting facts that he did in his life
Messenger

As the primary messenger of the gods, especially Zeus, Hermes shows up in many tales of Greek mythology. Both Hermes' speed and his skills as a speaker made him an excellent messenger. Hermes would carry commands from Zeus to other gods and creatures such as when he told the nymph Calypso to set Odysseus free in Homer's Odyssey. Hermes gained his speed from his winged sandals which allowed him to fly like a bird and move like the wind.

Inventor

Because Hermes was clever, he was often considered the god of invention. He is credited with a number of inventions including the Greek alphabet, numbers, music, boxing, gymnastics, astronomy

Trickster

From his first act of stealing Apollo's cattle, Hermes became known as the god of thieves and trickery. In many tales, he doesn't use strength to win battles, but cunning and guile. Whenever Zeus needed something, or someone, retrieved, he would send the trickster Hermes. Zeus sent him to steal the sinews of Zeus back from the monster Typhon. Hermes also helped the god Ares to secretly escape from the Aloadai giants.

Sherbet

On Tuesday in science we made sherbet. It was a fun activity but tricky to.

Ingredients: Icing sugar, Baking soda, Raro, Citric acid, Tartaric acid, Plastic bag,

Method: What we did is we set all of the ingredient out on a table and we got out Zip lock bags. What we started with is by putting about 1-2 teaspoon of each of the ingredients and if it was to sour, we put more icing sugar in and if it was to sweet we put more of the acids in.

Results: It turned out really good but my sherbet was was to sour because i run out of time to balance it. But some of the others was really good.

Home Economics (kiwi baker)

This term in Home economics we have been doing the Kiwi baker.  Here are some questions we were given to answer.

What did you bake?
We made Oreo cookies

What did you like about what you baked?
It tasted very good and it gave some learning experiences. The thing that i liked the most was the sweetness of the food we made and the crunch as well.

Did you make any changes to the recipe you used?
Yes, We had to add a little more flour do make it in to a dough.

What were the key skills that you learnt?
Communication because that was important so then we didn't add to much of an ingredient.

Did you enjoy the kiwi bakers unit? Give some reasons.
Yes i enjoyed it because we got to try some different things and different combinations with the food we baked and we got to work with people that aren't in our form class.
