What im most excited for, for eotc week

In a few weeks, all of the year 8 at my school are going to do something called EOTC (Education outside the classroom week) I've really liked EOTC in the past when I was at primary. EOTC is a week where you go off school grounds and go to places and learn skills and different things about that activity.

Questions:
What are you hoping to experience?

I am hoping to experience fear, joy, excitement because these emotions are what get Adrenalin pumping so then I might enjoy the tasks a little more.

Is there anything you are nervous for?

I am nervous for Adrenalin Forrest visit because I've done it before and I keep getting stuck and really scared because I have a fear of heights.

What do you think you will enjoy most?

I think I will enjoy the water activity the most because I love swimming and I really want to learn how to do some of the activity's.

Kete eotc week work

For the next few weeks we have some tasks to do about the education outside the classroom week we are having soon. For my first task this is what i had to do.

Design a raft that can hold 3 people on water. You will need to make a detailed design which must include sizes, materials and costs. You must also include a list of materials you need to build your raft and the cost of materials.

The total cost of all of the materials i used was $200.52.
the materials i used were

  • Metal mesh
  • Duck tape
  • Broom handles

I got this idea from a YouTube video where he makes a canoe out of metal mesh and duck tape. The guy he made the canoe also made paddles out of broom handles and duck tape to tread the water. He managed to get across the lake they were at successfully and he had no problems.

Fairy tail problem start.

This is the start to my problem for our fairy tail writing.

The dogs were very smart and they knew that eventually someone would try and break in. So they spent hours that they didn’t have to build weapons and traps so nothing could get their prize possessions. They were halfway done but night fell faster than expected so they had to leave it off at that…   As the Rooster calls and the crows squawk, the sun was beaming through the windows. The dogs all got up one by one and they celebrate their first night spent in their very odd but nice kennels. The dogs had food and got back to work. 10 minutes down the track… Their was the NINJA CAT. He got up and went too get breakfast but there was no food left in the cupboard. He said to himself, “Well, i better go and get some more food then.” So NINJA CAT left his house and went off to the shop.

Science experiments

On the 18th of October, we did our first science experiment (Practical). For this experiment we were going to heat ice until it started boiling. We got into groups and we had to get the equipment for the experiment.
  • Beaker
  • Thermometer
  • Tri-Pod
  • Bunsen burner
  • Ice
  • Timer
First we had to get all the equipment and set it up. we got some ice and put it in the beaker and then we used the thermometer and checked the temperature of the ice before we started. We then turned the Bunsen burner on so you can still see some of the safety flame and started to heat the ice. Every minute we have to check the temperature of the ice / water and write it down so then we can turn it into a graph later on. The temperature stared going up slowly but it eventually got hotter and hotter by the minute. There was eventually no ice left and and it was time to put all the information together. We made the graph and all the information. That was our ice melting experiment.

On the 24th of October, we did our second experiment. For this experiment we were putting a Potassium Permanganate Crystal into a beaker fill of water. For this experiment we were paired up and we got our equipment.
  • Beaker
  • Potassium Permanganate Crystal
  • Water
  • Straw
First we got our equipment and set it all up. We filled our beaker up with water and we got our Potassium Permanganate Crystal, Straw and we went back to our work area.  We used our straw and we put the Potassium Permanganate Crystal through the straw and it slowly drop into the water. When it touched the water some little shards off of the Potassium Permanganate Crystal went through the water. As the Potassium Permanganate Crystal was sitting on the bottom of the beaker, the water was going magenta colour and the water on the bottom was going a midnight purple. The Potassium Permanganate Crystal was slowly dissolving and there were air bubbles forming around the Potassium Permanganate Crystal and when they were let off some of the colour went with it so it looked like strands of spiderweb. That experiment was really cool and it was a really informative experiment as well. we had to write down what happened and what we thought the outcome was going to be.

Writing

This term we are working on fairy tails and myths for our writing. We had a task where we had to use a fairy tail and recreate it with our own characters and setting. This is the Orientation for my story.

Boring, I know. Once upon a time, there were three little dogs. Yeah dogs, and they were very fluffy
but sometimes they don't think about decisions very well. These three little dogs were living with their
mother in a small dog kennel in the snowy forests of Alaska. They loved it there.

Once they were old enough, they were kicked out of the kennel by their big chubby father dog. The
dogs didn’t really like each other that much so they decided to make kennels away from each other.
Oh by the way, The dogs names are Andre, Caleb & Aiden. Andre went off to the nearest KFC
restaurant and scabbed some KFC from other customers so then he could build his house. Andre took
the KFC to his spot he wanted to build his kennel at. At least he wouldn’t go hungry.   Aiden wanted
his kennel to be invisible but he knew that wasn’t going to happen so he built his house out of cloth
and sticks for supports.. Meanwhile Caleb had quite a bit of work to do because he wanted his house
too be built out of pig meat. It took him quite a long time to kill all the pigs he needed to make his
house.  Later that day he took a cart to collect all the meat and went off into the forest to build his
house. Eventually they had all managed to build their houses successfully and they all looked pretty
good.

About 10 minutes down the track. Was something fearless, scary, and hungry. Only if the dog's knew
what was going to happen…
