Unwind Pt. 3 Transit
- In the course of the book, Connor and Risa get separated from Lev, who travels for a time with another character. Why do you think Shusterman chose to split the narrative into two distinct threads? What do you think this achieves? How does this affect the evolution of the characters?
I think he chose to split up the novel because it makes the reader think about what is going on more and it also shows the personalities of these characters. This gets shown because Lev ended up snitching on Risa and Connor. In my opinion Shusterman doing this got me thinking about the store that little bit more than i was before because it makes me think back to what happened previously with the character i am reading about. I think this effects the characters evolution because them being split up affects the chemistry between the characters but also the reasoning behind why they got split up because Lev was the one that snitched which made Connor and Risa have to run to somewhere safe.
- On p125 & 129 the novel touches on same-sex relationships. Has the attitude toward same-sex couples changed (for better or worse) in this futuristic society? Explain your response.
I think they have changed this for the worst because on page 125, it was hinted at that Cy-Fi had two fathers instead of a mum and dad and then on page 129 it goes over the fact that after Heartland war, they made same sex marriage illegal which in my opinion is a wrong thing to do.
- P130 begins our journey into understanding a little more about Cy-Fi. Through his character, what do you learn about the effects of unwinding on both the donor and receiver?
Well being a receiver for body parts comes with things like you might have muscle memory from the person beforehand dependent on the body part or you might have different thoughts about things or urges to do things. As shown with Cy-Fi.
- What is the real reason Cy-Fi need to get to Joplin, Mo? Pg 131
Because of the voice that is in his head that is telling him to go there.
- What is the significance of Connor holding in his anger around Roland? Pg 147
Because Roland is trying to get Connor to swing at him so then he has a reason to kill him without Roland getting in trouble. So if Connor doesn't react to it and keeps his temper down, he is potentially keeping his life because Roland doesn't have a way to cover up a murder.
- Connor's anger and lack of impulse control is often a problem for him, until he learns to control and channel his emotions. Do you ever feel like your impulses are stronger than your will? What strategies do you use to control your feelings? Do they work?

Unwind pt.2 Storked End Of Chapter Questions
What is the story based on a nursery rhyme that circulates among the youth?
Risa overhears two nurses debating law and human nature. Which argument do you think is the stronger? Why do you think this? Write a paragraph explaining your thoughts on law and human nature.
This section opens with a mother abandoning her newborn infant on the doorstep of a house in a good neighborhood. As she leaves, she thinks "How wonderful it is that she can get a second chance. How wonderful it is that she can dismiss her responsibility so easily."
In your opinion, by allowing new mothers to give up their children so readily, does it take away from the value of a child?
In my opinion, i don't think it takes any value away from the child that has been left there. But the society in the story might have a different view on that and might have the mindset of that a storked baby in there to be unwound when they turn the age of 13
What is the role of a mother? Do you think the title of mother is something that should be earned, or a natural right of the woman who gave birth?
I think that the title of mother should be earned. because if you have a baby then stork it straight away you aren't considered as a good mother and that works the same if you keep the baby but treat it like it doesn't exist.
What skills or attributes do Connor and Risa have that work well together?
Connor reacts to things quickly and Risa actually thinks things through
Connor and Lev have very different experiences with storking. How has this helped shape each of their attitudes toward the society they live in?
Well Connors experiences with being storked hasn't been the best because as said before, when he got storked the baby just got passed around the neighborhood for two weeks until it ended up back at his house and then it ended up dying. but every time Lev was storked, they kept the baby and they had very positive views on storked baby's and they kept them as their own. Lev hasn't had that bad experience with the storked baby's where they have died.
Connor is concerned the baby won't be loved, and ultimately will die, so he takes it. What does this show us about him as a person?
It shows us that he is a person that cares for others.
What makes Lev realise he doesn't want to be unwound? P79
What pastor Dan said to him
Each of the other characters on the run has a tragic background story. Why were Hayden, Roland and Mai set to be unwound? Which, do you think, is the most tragic? Explain your response.
What tattoo does Roland have?
The Tiger shark

Storked - Workshop Discussion
If i was in Connors position, i would have saved the baby because if we also had a back story like what he has, it would just emotionally get to me and i would be full of regret if i didn't.
- Storking is a legal process, but does that make it the right thing to do?
Yes storking is a legal process, but in my opinion i don't think it is the right thing to do. in my thought of mind, if you decide to have a baby, you shouldn't just throw it away onto someones doorstep to look after for you. Also i don't thing it is good because doing that can just make the baby sick and unhealthy. one last thing is you don't know ho\w that family is going to treat that baby so it is a potential threat to the baby's life by doing that.
- Is it the mother’s responsibility to care for the child?
I think it is everyone responsibility to care for the child. as i said before you have brought a baby into the world so you have to do everything to look after it and care for its well being. and it should be more than just one person looking after it.
- Can Connor offer the baby a better future than it would have if left there?
In my opinion if Connor end up getting away, the baby has a better future with Connor and Risa than it would if it was left out on the doorstep or with that family. If it goes with that family it has higher chances of being unwound due to the fact that they have been storked before so they already have a few kids to look after.
- What risks does picking up the baby put on Connor, Risa and Lev?
The risks are that they now have to look after that baby and it will make hiding a tonne more difficult and they also now need more resources than what they needed before because they have to look after an extra person. and it also puts a lot of pressure on them and they have to make smarter decisions.
- What impact does Connors past have on his decision?
Connors past has a big impact on his decision because he has been in that boys situation before when the kid says they have been storked again. But Connors family then passed it onto another family even though it is illegal but it got passed around the neighborhood but after two weeks the same baby came back but it was so sick it died. He doesn't want the same thing to happen to that baby.

Unwind Part 1
- How much brainwashing do you think has happened for teenagers to make this sort of claim as they’re being led to their "death"?
I think they have gotten a lot of brainwashing for them to fully believe it. These kids are all being brainwashed and told things by their parents and they they are going to a place like school and then telling other kids things there
- Why, do you think, has Shusterman chosen to have three characters tell their story?
Because it gives the reader three different perspectives and three different upbringings and it also makes it more entertaining. It makes the story so much more interesting as it gives a view of two people facing the unwinding and then it shows 1 religious person and their view on an unwinding.
- Lev is a tithe. This means that he is the 10% that his family will give back to the church as an offering. What are your thoughts on this?
I don’t think that is all round a good thing because there are many other things they can give as their “10%” but they are choosing to unwind their child and use that as their 10% offering.
- Rita is a state home kid - she was unwanted at birth, and now the state has decided she is no longer useful. Do you think that the state should ever be able to determine if one life is more useful than another?
No. I think it should be a person that knows her that decides it because they know more about the person than the state people.
- Connor's parents have chosen to unwind him due to his difficult behaviour. They have then booked a ticket to the Bahamas. In your opinion, how do parents view their children? Why do you think this?
In my opinion every family's parents treat their children differently depending on things like the gender of the child, the gender can affect what their parents expect of them and what they do for a career exc. There are also things like the age of the child. Younger children tend to get more attention than the older ones.
- Pastor Dan presents as being conflicted. What reasons might he have to encourage Lev in his journey as a tithe? Why does he encourage him to run?
In my opinion, i think pastor Dan told Lev to run because pastor Dan has seen Lev as an amazing individual and doesn’t want to see Lev get killed (unwound). Another thing could be that pastor Dan might have had a friend in the past that got unwound and he doesn’t want the same to happen to Lev.

Hunger Games Symbols
In the hunger games there are many symbols and i am writing about a few of them
What am i learning? I am learning to identify and evaluate of the different symbols that were used through the movie.
How does this work show my learning. This
In the movie the Hunger Games, They do this thing called the 3 finger salute. You see it a few times like when Katniss and Peeta are up on the stage in district twelve after they had been picked (or volunteered in Katniss's case) to compete in the hunger games. And another scene is when they are in the hunger games and rue dies, Katniss does a 3 finger salute to the camera. This is used as a sign of respect and a friendly gesture.
One of the other scenes is with the Mocking jay pin. This pin was given to Katniss right before the game started as a sign of safety ( to keep her safe ) This pin is worn by Katniss in the games So she would hopefully be safe from everything. This pin was given to Katniss by Cinna and to me this shows a gesture of friendship, and just overall that Cinna doesn't want Katniss to get hurt.
Another scene in, Hunger Games, when they are showing all of the tributes from each of the districts, Katniss wears this flaming dress while riding on the carriage. This has an important part in the film because even though they might be from district twelve, they are confident and that they like to put on a show. She also shows off her flaming dress at the interview on the stage with Caesar. This once again shows that she is confident and when she did it everyone that was watching was astonished by what she just did.
