Street Painting

1) Why do we look at street art? Why do we stop when we see it? What is our reaction?
We look at street art because it is eye catching and is most of the time “out of place”.
We stop to look at it because it is eye-catching and it is interesting to look at and it helps us understand the real picture when we stop and have a good look at it.
Personally, my reaction is fascinated because of the scale of a lot of the paintings including these ones below.
2) Why do we need and use visual symbols around us?
Having visual symbols helps people so much, in ways that it helps everything flow well in form of traffic lights or it can help communication between everyone and it also makes people's life so much easier and makes everything so much easier to understand. Having paintings everywhere brightens our city up so much and it makes it look so much more colourful.
3) What are examples of common visual symbols in our environment? (collect examples for the drawing - think about what you might be able to use in making artworks later on as you do)   Stop light stop sign bathroom no go exit sign  give way bike line bus line

What kinds of mural images add interest to the city?
Most of the murals add interest to the city but to me the ones with bright and high contrast colours that pop the most and also the ones that look just out of the ordinary, like the one of the elephant and the big BB-8 painting add the most interest to me. Also there are the ones that take up a large scale like ones that are put onto big walls that covour the whole thing and catch attention.
Interpret how they express different ideas than other visual signs and/or advertising. What does good street art do for the community?
All of the murals have different visual signs like the one of the wolves facing each other added with the background gives me the feel that they are friends (friendship) and there are many others with different meanings like that. And good street art is good for the community because it makes the place more bright and all of it is painted in good places where you could say needed colour because a building was lost there or it was dull.
  • What were you meant to learn?

Hunger Games Symbols

In the hunger games there are many symbols and i am writing about a few of them
What am i learning? I am learning to identify and evaluate of the different symbols that were used through the movie.
How does this work show my learning. This

In the movie the Hunger Games, They do this thing called the 3 finger salute. You see it a few times like when Katniss and Peeta are up on the stage in district twelve after they had been picked (or volunteered in Katniss's case) to compete in the hunger games. And another scene is when they are in the hunger games and rue dies, Katniss does a 3 finger salute to the camera. This is used as a sign of respect and a friendly gesture.

One of the other scenes is with the Mocking jay pin. This pin was given to Katniss right before the game started as a sign of safety ( to keep her safe ) This pin is worn by Katniss in the games So she would hopefully be safe from everything. This pin was given to Katniss by Cinna and to me this shows a gesture of friendship, and just overall that Cinna doesn't want Katniss to get hurt.

Another scene in, Hunger Games, when they are showing all of the tributes from each of the districts, Katniss wears this flaming dress while riding on the carriage. This has an important part in the film because even though they might be from district twelve, they are confident and that they like to put on a show. She also shows off her flaming dress at the interview on the stage with Caesar. This once again shows that she is confident and when she did it everyone that was watching was astonished by what she just did.
