Bh Bake Sale

For the past 2/3 weeks we have been getting ready for a bake sale so we can fund raise. This bake sale took a lot of preparation and i am here to explain to you on what we did. What we started with was an idea to help give back to the community. we first started by watching video's about the SVA and then we had a brainstorm on ways that we can give back. We writ on a padlet on ways we can fund raise  and here are some of the ideas. Bake sale (one we chose), Planting plants Exc... Then we built off of them ideas and we thought about the up's and down about them.

After all of that we had one of the staff come into our room and talk to us about what they did last year for it. That staff explained that there was a family in Hornby that was having a lack of money and was struggling to live a normal life. So that is what changed our minds to a bake sale and that is what we were fund raising towards.  Then came the preparation and the planning For who gets what job.

What do snakes need to survive?

Question I am Answering: What do snakes need to survive??

Have you ever wondered how a snake survives in the wild?  Well i’m here to teach you how snakes collect food, drink water and about their habitat to survive from predators.

Lets fill you up on some food information. Snakes are interesting creatures when it comes too catching their prey.  With some creatures, snakes wrap around it until it dies of suffocation. Sometimes the venomous snakes inject a shot of venom into their prey to paralyze their prey or even kill it on the spot and then the snake is able to swallow the ready meal whole. Snakes don’t bite their prey unless they are injecting venom. Snakes can eat and swallow, small mammals, reptiles, amphibians, insects, spiders, centipedes & scorpions. I think it is time that we slither away from food.
Let’s tell you something little about water. Snakes are like all of us when it comes to the natural needs. It eats as you have heard, and they also drink water. When it comes too snakes drinking water they drink it like a normal animal does. But if the snake lives in a naturally dry habitat when the snake crosses paths with a puddle of rainwater it can drink it. But if it is lots It can gather the water on its body in its little scales and it can save it for when it is thirsty. Sea snakes are different. You would think that sea snakes can drink freely but that is only if they live in freshwater. Salt water sea snakes have too find fresh water before they can have a drink.

Habitats are a key part for a snake. Because snakes have many enemies, they need a secure and quiet place so then they don’t become deprived of sleep. Snakes can live in many different places to stay safe. For example… Burrows, Underwater Coral caves, Tunnels, Vegetation & Caves. Snakes hide in these things because they are sheltered from predators. Snakes also need to find a habitat that suits their living needs.

So after all of that, Snakes are really cool creatures and they are a lot like us humans.  And one last thing, if you stumble across a snake leave it alone. These are some amazing creatures and they have some amazing features along with them. WOW!

Reflection Questions
Something I did well: I think i have good quality work and it has scientific words.

Something I need to improve: I need to find More scientific words and i need to add more Punctuation

What I learned from this assignment:  I learnt that Sea snakes need to find fresh water to have a drink.

How many crackers can you eat in a minute?

Today in science, we were having a little eating experiment where we had to see how many crackers we could eat in a minute.
Prediction
Predict how many crackers you can eat in a minute.
Rules
1. You can only eat one cracker at a time
2. You must finish the previous one before you start the next one
3. You CAN NOT Drink any water in the minute

Resalt
How many did you eat?

My Explanation
When you eat you have to chew thoroughly which slows you down. When you are eating while being timed your body stresses out a little so it takes you a little longer to eat and that also decreases your final score!

Helpful Information
One of things saliva does to moisten food (Make it wet) So it can be easily swallowed.

Dry crackers or biscuits absorb a lot of saliva, So your mouth dries out making it hard to swallow.

Science Candy test! YUM!

Today in science, we were doing a test to see if we could identify candy flavors without seeing the colour of it first. We noted down the :
1. Name & Colour
2. Our guess
3. If we were correct or wrong
4. The taste
5. Our notes.
We also had written down the question: (can i Identify the flavor of the candy even if i don't see it?) And we put down our prediction on how we were going to do with the guessing. Then w had another question.(How will you do this) <--- for that we had to draw a picture and say the steps.
1. Grab the candy \ materials
2. Close your eyes and taste the candy
3. Guess the flavor and check the final data and calculate our score.
After we had to say what we would keep the same and what will change and then we got to do the test.

Overall it was a fun experiment and i would love to do it again!

Matariki!

For my Matariki work for reading, I have been working on my last part of my activity and i completed it. Here is the finished product with the question that we were given.

What I now know about Matariki
Use full sentences to answer. Aim for 3-5 sentences for each question.

What is Matariki?
Why did Maori observe Matariki?
How did Maori traditionally celebrate Matariki?
When and how should Matariki be celebrated?
Select 3 of the te reo vocabulary words from the glossary. Write a sentence using each word.
Use your own words.

Matariki is the sign for the new maori new year. Matariki consists of 9 stars and 7 of them are known to
be sister stars.  Matariki is a constellation that happens once a year.
Because it signals the new year in maori tradition. It helps determine if the crops will be a good growing year. They Observe it so then they can say goodbye to the people that passed away in that year and so they
can welcome new born children into the new year.
Traditionally Māori would celebrate Matariki by
harvesting their crops. Playing games with everyone & keeping cozy and warm.
You should Celebrate Matariki in a way that is unforgettable. Matariki is like 3 days but you should still
Celebrate it with Respect and culture.

Words Into Sentence.
Nga Whetu =Stars
I am going too go outside and look at the Nga Whetu
Whanau = Family
Let’s go and spend some time with you Whanau
Hauhake = Harvest
When it gets too winter, I will Hauhake My crops

I hope you have learnt something looking at my work!

Stay Safe!!

For Cyber smart we needed to make a D.L.O on how to stay safe / how to keep your personal information safe. We all have Cyber smart partners and me and my partner created this piktochart on how you can try and keep you personal between people you trust and people that DON'T  need it. SO make sure you dont let all of it out!

I used Piktochart

I think me and my partner worked hard on this and i think that we completed it to a good standard and we finished it on the time we were given. we also filled it with some good information.

Have you learnt anything from this Piktochart?

Reading, Matariki

Today for my Matariki progress. I have continued filling in the template and this is my second ansewer to the question that was given.

Q = Why did Maori observe Matariki?

  1. Because it signals the new year in maori tradition. It helps determine if the crops will be a good growing year. They Observe it so then they can say goodbye to the people that passed away in that year and so they can welcome new born children into the new year.

In my opinion, I think my progress is going well and i should be able to finish my task by the end of the week.

Matariki PT,2..

Today for my Matariki reading work, I completed Reading the online resource and also I started doing the Writing activity where we have four questions, and we have to answer them in 3-5 sentences.
This was the question I had to answer::
What is Matariki?

And my response was.
  1. Matariki is the sign for the new Maori new year. Matariki consists of 9 stars and 7 of them are
  2. known to be sister stars.  Matariki is a constellation that happens once a year.

I also found out that Matariki helps tell if you crops will grow good or bad.
I think doing this topic is fun and it is great to learn about the history behind it.

Taha tinana (Physical well-being), Taha Hinengaro (Emotional & Mental well-being), Taha Whanau (Social well-being) & Taha Wainia (Spiritual well-being). For this activity built off it, we had to fill in a template with four boxes representing each of those four dimensions and explain something that we do to show and represent that dimension and balance them. then we got to decorate it how we wanted and we put our name in the middle!

E-pro8 Challenge

On Wednesday the 23 of may, I had the opportunity to go represent my school at the E-pro8 Challenge. The E-pro8 challenge is a booklet with a series of challenges based off of a main topic. There were four main topics that each had around ten little tasks off it. We were all in teams and in the team i was in had  Matthew, Greg and Rikin. My group got a total of 200 points and most of the tasks were 50-60 but everyone got bonus points for having a tidy work station when the host came around. We all had 2 hours to complete as many tasks as we could. I had a great time and I would love to do it again!
