Unwind Part 1

  1.  How much brainwashing do you think has happened for teenagers to make this sort of claim as they’re being led to their "death"?
I think they have gotten a lot of brainwashing for them to fully believe it. These kids are all being brainwashed and told things by their parents and they they are going to a place like school and then telling other kids things there

  1. Why, do you think, has Shusterman chosen to have three characters tell their story?
Because it gives the reader three different perspectives and three different upbringings and it also makes it more entertaining.  It makes the story so much more interesting as it gives a view of two people facing the unwinding and then it shows 1 religious person and their view on an unwinding.

  1. Lev is a tithe. This means that he is the 10% that his family will give back to the church as an offering. What are your thoughts on this?
I don’t think that is all round a good thing because there are many other things they can give as their “10%” but they are choosing to unwind their child and use that as their 10% offering.

  1. Rita is a state home kid - she was unwanted at birth, and now the state has decided she is no longer useful. Do you think that the state should ever be able to determine if one life is more useful than another?
No. I think it should be a person that knows her that decides it because they know more about the person than the state people.

  1. Connor's parents have chosen to unwind him due to his difficult behaviour. They have then booked a ticket to the Bahamas. In your opinion, how do parents view their children? Why do you think this?
In my opinion every family's parents treat their children differently depending on things like the gender of the child, the gender can affect what their parents expect of them and what they do for a career exc. There are also things like the age of the child. Younger children tend to get more attention than the older ones.

  1. Pastor Dan presents as being conflicted. What reasons might he have to encourage Lev in his journey as a tithe? Why does he encourage him to run?
In my opinion, i think pastor Dan told Lev to run because pastor Dan has seen Lev as an amazing individual and doesn’t want to see Lev get killed (unwound). Another thing could be that pastor Dan might have had a friend in the past that got unwound and he doesn’t want the same to happen to Lev.
