Buddhist Temple Trip

On the 22nd of may, HHS Year 7-8 went on a trip to the Christchurch Buddhist Temple. This is a recount about the trip and what we did.

All the year 8 students went in the first part of the day, and we started with a bus trip to the temple. As we arrived to the temple, there we all the people and volunteers standing in front to welcome us. We got off the bus and lined up in our two separate groups that we were put into at school. The leader got to hold a sign with the number on it. We started off by learning the Lotus sign. We eventually went off and started the journey around the temple.

We started off in the art gallery, were we learnt about some of the art and what it is about. Some of the art was really cool and really creative. Now it was time to take a trip up stairs and through the tunnel of time and to the library. At the library there were lots of books written in a different language so I didn’t know what they said, But there was one shelf that was fill of english books. Now my group were going down stairs to get a water tattoo. They were all different but my one had a red flower at the bottom of it and it was really cool.

The water tattoo’s were cool but I’m not a big fan on them. We now walked to a room that had two table’s and they had card pop outs to make a lotus flower, and in that room it also had a place where you could bathe a buddha. Most of my group did it but I didn’t want too so I sat at that back. Now it was time to build the lotus flower from the card pop outs. The different layers of the lotus had different numbers so then we could order them in size and then staple it together with a rubber band connected it. I had the rubber band around my head so then the flower was as well.

We then moved onto having a snack. It was water and cookies. Both of the groups met up for this stage so then we could move onto the final stage together which was the meditation and the police talk. The meditation was really relaxing and it was really fun as well. The police talk was also really fun because there were little acts that we could do. At the end we were able to dress up in police gear. It was really cool and it was a really fun day.

Sadly it was time to go back to school, but it was a really fun time and i would love to do more things like that.

  1. Hello Aiden,
I am so happy to hear that you truly enjoyed our trip yesterday to the temple. I liked how you described each different activity that we participated in and you told us all about it in a clear and organized way. A part that stood out for me was the respectful way you made a mention of the lotus room and bathing the buddah and your choice to participate by watching others.
